[ba'rɛr də vjø'zak], Bertrand, französischer Politiker, * Tarbes 10. 9. 1755, ✝ ebenda 13. 1. 1841; ursprünglich Rechtsanwalt, gehörte 1789-91 der Verfassunggebenden Nationalversammlung an und präsidierte dem Konvent beim Prozess gegen Ludwig XVI. Als eines der radikalsten Mitglieder des Wohlfahrtsausschusses trat er für die Zerstörung der Königsgräber von Saint-Denis ein und wirkte beim Sturz der Girondisten sowie J. R. Héberts und G. Dantons mit. Nach dem Sturz M. de Robespierres wurde er zur Deportation verurteilt, aber begnadigt. Später trat er in die Dienste Napoleons I. (1803-07 als geheimer Agent). 1815 als Königsmörder und Terrorist verbannt, lebte er bis zur Julirevolution 1830 in Brüssel; schrieb Lebenserinnerungen (»Mémoires«, herausgegeben von L. H. Carnot, 1842-44, 4 Bände).
